The much-celebrated Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi brought his best-known works to Beijing on Sunday, November 14, 2010 for an exclusive concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts.
Hisaishi conducted the NCPA's Concert Hall Orchestra in a two-hour concert, giving live renditions of his symphonic pieces, including "Links" and "MKWAJU 1981-2009".
The musician, who is particularly known for the scores he wrote for the Oscar-winning films "Spirited Away" and "Departures", led the orchestra while playing the piano.
When the concert ended, the full house gave Hisaishi a standing ovation. Applause and cheers prolonged the concert, and Hisaishi returned to the stage twice for encores.
The concert will be staged again Monday evening at the same venue.
