Bi Feiyu (畢飛宇) is one of China's most important and prominent contemporary writers. He was born in Xinghua of Jiangsu Province in 1964. In 1987, he graduated from Yangzhou Normal College with a major in Chinese and got a teaching job upon graduation. In 1992, he worked as a journalist for the Nanjing Daily and in 1998 he began working for Yuhua Magazine. He is now the professor of the Bi Feiyu Studio at Nanjing University.
He started writing in the 1980s and has been writing full-length, novellas and short novels ever since. His works won the first and second Lu Xun Literary Prize, the eighth Mao Dun Literary Prize, the fourth Asian Literary Prize and the Literary Award given to him by French publication Le Monde. He was nominated for the Independence Foreign Fiction Prize. His works have thus far been translated into 20 languages.
