Han Shaogong (韓少功) was born in 1953 in Changsha City of Hunan Province in central China. As a member of the presidium of the Chinese Writers Association and honorary chairman of the Federation of Literary and Art Circles of Hainan Province, Han is considered a member of the"root-seeking" school and has published many works in this field.
Han's major works include the short stories "Looking at the Grassland in West" and "Returning Home;" the novellas "Dad Dad Dad" and "Shoe Fetish;" the essays "The World" and "Perfect Hypothesis;" the essay selection "The South of Mountains, The North of Rivers;" the novels "A Dictionary of Maqiao," "Hint" and "Books of Day and Night;" and the Chinese translations of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" and "The Book of Disquiet."
