Chengdu Phoenix Mountain Sports Park, the major venue of the 2021 Universiade contracted to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), recently won the AEC Excellence Awards 2020 in the category of large construction project.
This year, more than 260 projects from 35 countries were submitted to be considered for the award, which recognizes projects and people around the world that embrace the future of making use of innovative technologies in architecture, engineering, and construction. The award is the most influential event of building information modeling (BIM) in the world.
With a total area of 43.67 hectares, Chengdu Phoenix Mountain Sports Park is comprised of a professional football stadium with 60,000 seats, a comprehensive indoor stadiums with 18,000 seats, R1 landscape, and commercial buildings. Upon completion, it will be a top-notch sports center in the world, and the flagship venue for the 2021 Universiade and the 2023 Asian Cup.
Despite the negative impact of COVID-19, CSCEC completed the large opening dome structure of the football stadium in April, three days ahead of schedule. Through ingenious design and operation optimization, the entire construction period has been shortened by 132 days, saving a large amount of construction expenses and reaping economic and social benefits throughout the industry chain.
