On October 7, the Electric Power Research Institute of State Grid Fujian Electric Power Co., Ltd. applied new technology of high-altitude UAV-based radiographic testing to inspect the crimped connection of 16 tension clamps for the Fuzhou-Xiamen 1000 kV UHV AC project. Compared with manual inspection that requires climbing up the power tower, this new technology reduces the average time of inspection to less than 10 minutes and increases the efficiency by about 6 times.

During this year's National Day holiday, the "Ten-li Gold Coast" in Shadi Village, Yongning Town, Shishi City ushered in a tourism peak. B&Bs, street lights, and charging piles in the scenic area are all powered by photovoltaic power generated through AC/DC hybrid micro-grids.
In Shadi Village, where sunlight is abundant, more than 2,000 households have distributed photovoltaic power station installed on their roofs. Taking advantage of the real-time information exchange of 5G networks, optical fibers, high-speed broadband carrier smart meters, etc., State Grid Quanzhou Power Supply Company relies on high-efficiency conversion and flexible control technology to build AC/DC hybrid micro-grids for photovoltaic power stations throughout the village. It actively manages electrical energy and improves power quality while absorbing and accommodating photovoltaic electricity.
In recent years, with the high proportion of new energy being connected to the grid, the power system is rapidly developing towards a "dual-high" form with high proportion of new energy and power electronics access, and a "dual-new" character with the widespread application of new equipment and technologies.
Clean energy such as water, wind, and solar energy are all susceptible to the influence of the natural environment and climate, which cannot guarantee a reliable supply of electricity. Faced with such a challenge, State Grid Fujian Electric Power has accelerated the construction of a "data + platform + ecology" development model, extended and expanded the potential of the energy network with digital technology and enhanced the climate adaptability, security, resilience and regulation flexibility of the power grid. Abundant resources are a plus for Fujian to develop hydro-power. However, reservoirs here are scattered and of numerous sources, which limits the peak control of the reservoir group. With the large influx of new energy power into the power grid, urgent requirements have been put forward to improve its peak control capability. State Grid Fujian Electric Power has built an operation platform where water supply, electricity and new energy are complementary in time and space. And it has built a "regulatory pool" for clean energy supply across river basins, fully covering and accessing to the operation data of 50,884 distributed photovoltaic power stations and 5,273 small hydro-power stations in the province. This ensures the observability of small-scale power sources, makes the prediction of clean energy power generation more accurate and enables full absorption and accommodation of clean energy for many consecutive years.
During this year's flood season, State Grid Fujian Electric Power piloted digital twin technology for flood control-based power generation at Shuikou Power Station. A single flood has increased power generation by 30 million kilowatt hours and has also enabled the water energy utilization rate reach 100%. It is expected that the water resources saved this year will increase power generation by about 500 million kilowatt hours, ensuring both power generation and flood prevention.
Digital Infrastructure Enables More Intelligent Operation of the Power Grid
Doksuri, the No. 5 typhoon that led to landfall in Jinjiang, Fujian this year was one of the strongest typhoons to land in Fujian in record, covering most parts of the province with heavy rain. Based on the "137" emergency experience summarized from previous rescue and disaster relief practices and relying on the disaster monitoring, early warning and emergency command and management system of Fujian Power Grid, State Grid Fujian Electric Power collected and organized real-time information on wind, rain, typhoon path, etc. during such dangerous situations. The entire process and scenario of emergency repair and power restoration, including dispatching pre-set teams, assigning emergency repair tasks, surveying disaster damage information, allocating materials, supplying logistics, etc., are fully covered by online management, which greatly improves the efficiency of emergency repair and power restoration. The emergency repairs and power restoration took only three days and nights, setting a new record for flood prevention and typhoon resistance with "Fujian speed".

In previous years, during the peak power consumption period in summer, the Haicang Power Supply Station of State Grid Xiamen Power Supply Company often received repair requests from residents. Such requests have dropped significantly this year. Zhang Nan, deputy director of the Intelligent Production Control Center of State Grid Xiamen Power Supply Company, said, "With digital thinking and intelligent operation and maintenance, we predict in advance so that operation and maintenance can win the race against power failures. At present, the intelligent auxiliary monitoring of power distribution stations covers 263 important underground power distribution stations of large and medium-sized communities, realizing centralized monitoring, intelligent analysis, and proactive early warning of environmental data. Four demonstration areas for coordinated and autonomous inspection of power transmission, transformation and distribution by UAVs have been built, which collect information from systems such as the Public Security 'Sky Eye' monitoring system to achieve real-time, full-coverage monitoring of power lines in core areas and enhance panoramic perception of equipment status. All these efforts have reduced the external failure rate by about 40% and the number of power failure reports by 21.19%."
