The Volkswagen Group announced on Tuesday that the company will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS).
The future vehicles in its portfolio of brands, which include Audi, Porsche, and the group's Scout Motors, will get the NACS charge port built starting in 2025, the German automobile giant said.
The announcement came as many automakers leveraged on the charging standard since Tesla's announcement last year that it was opening up access.
Ford announced in May 2023 that its EV owners would soon have access to Tesla chargers via an adapter, adding that its next generation of EVs would be integrated with Tesla's NACS charge port starting in 2025. Major automakers such as GM, Rivian, Honda, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota and Subaru followed with their announcements to leverage Tesla's charging standard.
