Alibaba Group Holding Ltd's online marketplaces Taobao and Tmall said on Wednesday that they will begin accepting mobile payment option from Tencent's WeChat Pay, as part of a broader push to improve consumer shopping experience.
Taobao and Tmall said in a statement provided to China Daily that they are upholding the concept of openness and cooperation and actively exploring interoperability and collaboration among various platforms to make consumers' shopping activities more convenient, pleasant and highly efficient.
Taobao and Tmall said they have informed all the merchants on the two platforms about the plan to add WeChat Pay as a payment option. However, they did not specify how quickly the service is likely to be completely rolled out to users.
