A 60-year-old man who died Friday has become the first victim of A/H1N1 flu in Shanghai, the local health authority said.
The man, who was only identified as Zhang by the municipal health bureau, died early Friday in hospital after his situation suddenly deteriorated.
He was confirmed to be infected by A/H1N1 virus on Nov. 27 and sent to the city's Public Health Clinical Center for treatment. Doctors found out that he also suffered serious pneumonia.
The Chinese mainland saw a faster increase of deaths from the A/H1N1 influenza in the past weeks. Reported weekly deaths between Nov. 9 to 29 were 28, 51 and 74 respectively, according to the Ministry of Health.
It said more than 27 million people nationwide had been inoculated with the China-made A/H1N1 vaccine by Monday.
