At least three people were killed and 17 others injured after a coach collided with a sedan and overturned on an expressway in Shanghai on Friday, municipal authorities said.
The accident occurred at 3:43 p.m. on the expressway linking Shanghai and Nanjing City, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, according to a statement from the municipal publicity office.
Sixteen of the injured were immediately taken to a nearby local hospital. One seriously injured person was airlifted to prestigious Ruijin Hospital by a helicopter.
The coach was carrying 18 tourists on a trip arranged by Shanghai Tianyuan Holiday Travel Agency. The cause of the accident was under investigation, according to the statement.
In a separate case in east China's Zhejiang Province, one person was killed and five others injured in a road accident Friday afternoon, local authorities said.
A black sedan crossed over the central safety rail on a highway in Anji County and collided with a container truck and a minibus at 12:45 p.m., killing one person and seriously injuring another on the sedan. Four people on the minibus were also injured, according to a statement from Anji County's publicity department.
The injured were rushed to a local hospital. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
