About 30.5 percent of the elected delegates to the upcoming national congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) are from grassroots level, up 2.1 percent from the previous congress,?according to a statement released by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee Tuesday.

The 2,270 delegates to attend the Party's 18th National Congress have been elected by 40 electoral units.

Of the delegates elected, 1,578 are?officials, accounting for 69.5 percent of the total, 2.1 percentage points lower than that of the 17th National Party Congress.

The numbers of women delegates and delegates of ethnic minorities also increased.?In comparison?with the previous congress, 76 more women members and seven more members of ethnic minority groups were elected as delegates. Of the 56 ethnic groups nationwide,?44 have their delegates to the congress.

The average age of the elected delegates is 52.?Of them,?64.8 percent are under 55 years old and?17.6 percent are under 45 years old.

The delegates also shows a better education background, with 93.5 percent?being junior college graduates.
