A senior Chinese leader on Thursday called on scholars to deepen their study and interpretation of Deng Xiaoping Theory to drum up spiritual support for the Chinese Dream.
Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when he was addressing more than 150 scholars at a seminar to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Deng Xiaoping.
Liu said deepening study of Deng Xiaoping Theory must be carried out while upholding the theme of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Research efforts should be intensified to fortify people's conviction in the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
Liu urged the academics to carry on their studies by connecting Deng Xiaoping Theory with the ongoing endeavor to deepen overall reform rolled out at the landmark Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in November.
He stressed that scholars should focus on realistic issues and try to study and cope with problems of overall and strategic importance.
Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended the seminar, which was presided over by Liu Qibao, head of the CPC Central Committee's Publicity Department.
More than 100 papers on Deng's life and Deng Xiaoping Theory were included in the seminar, which was jointly organized by the Party, government and military organs as well as think tanks.
