Rescuers have recovered the body of a woman, but eight people are missing after a sightseeing boat capsized on the Yellow River in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Wednesday.
The rear of the boat carrying 15 people hit a floating bridge on the river, in Tuoketuo County of the regional capital, Hohhot, at 3:30 p.m., throwing all the passengers into the water, said Li Banzhu, a fisherman who assisted the rescue operation.
Local residents and rescuers had lifted six survivors, including the boat owner Huang Kaiyuan, from the river as of 9 p.m., said Jia Ping, the county head.
He pledged all-out rescue efforts despite the torrential water and poor visibility.
Police have detained Huang and are investigating the accident.
