Chinese Workers Amid Israel's Move to Deport Illegal Workers

The Israeli police have formally contacted with some governmental departments concerned to discuss the proposal by Prime Minister Sharon on deporting 50,000 illegal foreign workers.

The suicide bombing on 17th killed and injured 6 Chinese illegal workers, who don't hold legal work permits.

The majority of the bombing victims are illegal foreign workers since the bombing happened in the area where lots of such workers gathered. Their treatment and compensation fees concern the whole Israeli society.

Israeli insurance companies noted there would be no problem on the victims' compensation fees in spite of their illegal identities. However, the country hasn't made it clear that if the victims' relatives will be granted to go there for visiting or attending the funeral.

It was reported that the Israeli Ministry of Home Affairs submitted a report on illegal foreign workers to Sharon after the suicide bombing. Sharon immediately met with the heads from the police and some other governmental departments, demanding them to launch operation schemes as soon as possible to deport the workers.

Insiders revealed a special operation team is going to be organized by 150 to 200 policemen to investigate, detain and deport the illegal workers.

It's only a prelude to deport the 50,000 workers. According to a proposal jointly submitted to the cabinet by some governmental departments, Israel plans to deport as many as 10,000 by the end of 2005, accounting for one third or half of the current total number of illegal workers.

So far Israel can only deport several thousand of illegal workers every year. This year it has already deported 1,750 in all.
