The spirit of the special economic zones

Setting up special economic zones was a major move by the central authorities to promote reform and opening up and socialist modernization.

In August 1980, the State Council formally approved a plan to set up the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. This was the first of its kind in China, to be followed by Zhuhai, Shantou, Xiamen and Hainan. These places have served as China's "experimental fields" for institutional reform, and windows for the rest of the world to learn about China. Their people are known for their will to experiment, open new ground, and be hard working pioneers.

特區(qū)精神

興辦經(jīng)濟(jì)特區(qū),是黨和國家為推進(jìn)改革開放和社會(huì)主義現(xiàn)代化建設(shè)作出的重大決策。1980年8月,國務(wù)院正式批準(zhǔn)成立深圳經(jīng)濟(jì)特區(qū),這是新中國成立的第一個(gè)經(jīng)濟(jì)特區(qū)。40年來,深圳、珠海、汕頭、廈門、海南等五個(gè)經(jīng)濟(jì)特區(qū)不辱使命,在建設(shè)中國特色社會(huì)主義偉大歷史進(jìn)程中譜寫了勇立潮頭、開拓進(jìn)取的壯麗篇章,在體制改革中發(fā)揮了“試驗(yàn)田”作用,在對(duì)外開放中發(fā)揮了重要“窗口”作用,為中國改革開放和社會(huì)主義現(xiàn)代化建設(shè)作出了重大貢獻(xiàn)。在這一過程中,特區(qū)人民逐步形成了“敢闖敢試、敢為人先、埋頭苦干”的特區(qū)精神,成為中國精神的重要組成部分。
