More than 87 percent of Ecuadorians oppose natives' protests against the Water Resources Law, an opinion poll of Credit Management Solutions (CMS) said Thursday.

Surveying 13,838 households in 11 cities like Ibarra, Latacunga, Riobamba and Ambato, the poll said 87.3 percent of respondents disapproved of the protests, while only 12.7 percent approved.

The poll also showed that 82 percent of those surveyed wouldn't support the natives' goal to overthrow Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa.

Hundreds of Ecuadorian natives blocked several highways Monday to protest against the Water Law being discussed in the National Assembly.

Ecuadorian natives worry the bill could lead to the privatization of water resources and give private companies, mainly mining ones, a privilege to use the water. They consider it a violation of their ancestral rights of water management.

Sharing the natives' fears, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador also opposes the bill.

"We will find other strategies for not allowing the ruling party to continue governing a small group," said a representative of the natives.
