At least five people have been killed in a building collapse due to heavy rains in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a senior police official said Sunday.
"The two-storey building collapsed in the state's Meerut town because of heavy rains that have been lashing the region since Saturday," he said, on condition of anonymity.
While five bodies have been pulled out of the debris of the house by rescuers, efforts are on to bring out any more people trapped inside, the official said.
"Out of the five killed, three are children. Two others also sustained injuries in the building collapse and have been admitted to a local hospital," he said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official added.
