U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday congratulated China on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the people's republic, saying that China has achieved "a historic accomplishment" by lifting millions of people out of poverty.
"I would like to extend warm wishes and congratulations to the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the 60th anniversary of its founding on October 1," Clinton said in a video message.
"In the last 30 years, China has undergone an extraordinary economic transformation, lifting millions of people out of poverty. This is truly a historic accomplishment," she said.
The secretary said that the United States is pleased that this year also marks the 30th anniversary of U.S.-PRC diplomatic relations. "We are committed to building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship that reflects the deepening ties between our two countries and enhances the security and prosperity of all our people," she added.
