Newly re-elected State President Hu Jintao spoke at the closing meeting of the NPC session. He said all members in the new government fully realize that they shoulder great responsibilities for the people and nation.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said, "When we fulfill our mission, we will, firstly stick to and continue to expand democracy and improve the legal system. Secondly, we will adhere to the policy of putting people's interests first. Thirdly, we will adopt a down-to-earth manner but be innovative in our work. Lastly, we will discipline ourselves and strictly avoid corruption."

Lawmakers at the meeting also passed Premier Wen Jiabao's government work report.

They also approved the reports on the work of the NPC Standing Committee, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
