Developing countries should enhance South-South cooperation and jointly face up to the challenges brought about by globalization, China's ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire said Wednesday.
The South-South cooperation has scored remarkable achievements since the Second South Summit in 2005, Wei Wenhua said at Group of 77 (G-77) plus China meeting in Yamoussoukro, political capital of Cote d'Ivoire.
Wei, head of the Chinese delegation to the four-day meeting starting Tuesday, said the South-South cooperation is one of the effective measures to counter the difficulties and challenges posed by globalization.
The challenges, Wei noted, include those related to poor management mechanism and insufficient financial supply.
Developing countries, therefore, should further boost mutually beneficial cooperation and nurture a favorable international environment for the South-South cooperation, Wei said.
As a developing country, China has thrown itself into advocating the South-South cooperation and has always been an active participant, the ambassador noted.
The G-77 at the United Nations is a loose coalition of developing nations, established in 1964. Its membership has increased to 134 countries.
The group is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing states in the United Nations, providing them the means to articulate and promote collective economic interests and enhance joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues within the UN system, as well as promote the South-South cooperation for development.
