The "eating-for-two" myth is still common and is pushed by older generations, but also women are already overweight or obese when they conceive. |
One in 20 British women is seriously obese when they become pregnant, a new study has found, the Daily Telegraph reports. Mothers and their babies face greater risks of illness and death due to maternity obesity, the report by the Center for Maternal and Child Enquiries said. Obese pregnant women are 1.5 times more likely to have a caesarean birth and their babies need intensive care treatment after birth. |
Tim Draycott, a health consultant, said the "eating-for-two" myth is still common and is pushed by older generations, but also women are already overweight or obese when they conceive. The report recommends women to lose weight and adopt a healthier lifestyle before they conceive. |
