According to scientists, adult monkeys can recognize photographs of their friends, the BBC reported.

In an experiment, untrained Barbary macaques showed interest in photos of other monkeys but spent more time scrutinizing pictures of unfamiliar animals. Juvenile monkeys were fascinated, but puzzled by the photographs and often tried to greet or touch the animal in the image.

The findings suggest that primates learn over time to understand that photos are representations of faces.
