A Mexican government official and the producer of "Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond," a new documentary about the Mayan civilization, have claimed that the film will provide evidence of extraterrestrial contact with the ancient culture, TheWrap.com reported.

"Mexico will release codices, artifacts and significant documents with evidence of Mayan and extraterrestrial contact, and all of their information will be corroborated by archaeologists," said Raul Julia-Levy, producer of the film.

"The Mexican government is not making this statement on its own -- everything we say, we're going to back it up,” said Raul-Julia.

The film, directed by Juan Carlos Rulfo, is due for theatrical release in late 2012.
