A member of the CPPCC National Committee named Zong Licheng, vice chairman of the Federation of Industry and Commerce in Shandong Province, presented a proposal that the 500 yuan or 1,000 yuan paper currency can be issued to meet the needs of economic and social development and reduce the cost of currency in circulation, Beijing Morning Post reported.
He holds that large-denomination currency is portable and can save paper and time in circulation.
Responding to the doubt that the deed may trigger inflation, he said that as the total currency remains the same the internal structural change has no necessary connection with inflation.
Based on economic growth, people's income, price hike and other factors, referring to the condition of large-denomination bills in developed countries, China can issue 500 yuan bills at first and 1000 yuan bills later depending on the circumstances, he said.
