On Tuesday, the former head of China's soccer association claimed he was tortured into confessing to taking bribes, as he and other officials faced trial in a crackdown on graft in Chinese football, China Youth Daily reported.
Xie Yalong, the former Ex-chief of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), went on trial in Dandong for allegedly receiving bribes, becoming the highest-ranking former soccer official to face justice. His successor as China's soccer boss, Nan Yong, was to go on trial a day later at a court in the city of Tieling, Liaoning Province, also on the charge of accepting bribes.
However, Xie told the court he was tortured by means of electric shocks, was beaten, and doused with water while being interrogated during investigations.
Xie, 56, was charged with 12 counts of accepting bribes, which came at a total of 1.72 million yuan, Xinhua said.
