During Sunday's charity walkathon at Shicha Lake in Beijing, a Mozambican student from Peking University buys a bag of "Dafu" cookies, baked by people who struggle with learning difficulties. The campaign attracted over 300 volunteers, aiming to raise public awareness on disabled care and to mark China's 22nd Helping the Disabled Day. It was organized by Beijing Huiling, an NGO promoting the rights of people with learning difficulties. Dafu was an autistic character in the 2010 movie Ocean Heaven, which helped draw the general public's attention to this very special group of people. [CnDG by Jiao Meng] |
