Ma Long and Xu Xin captured the men's doubles title at the World Table Tennis Championships in Rotterdam on Saturday, increasing the number of gold medals for powerhouse China to three.
The top seeded Chinese duo beat second seeded Chen Qi and Ma Lin 11-3, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 11-7. After bringing back the scoring to 2-1 Chen Qi and Ma Lin did not seemed to have the power to come back anymore.
At the World Championships in 2009, Ma Long and Xu Xin lost the final to Chen Qi and Wang Hao. "This was a little bit different than what we experienced in Yokohama two years ago," Ma Long said."This time we were much better prepared. We were determined. We did not want to defend, but tried to topple our opponents."
"Amongst the three Chinese doubles pairs we maybe were the worst before the tournament," Xu Xin added. "We took a lot of losses, but we did not think about that this week."
On Sunday, China have great opportunities to complete the gold medal sweep by winning the women's doubles and the men's singles. German Timo Boll is the only non-Chinese in the semis.
