British Olympic poster boy, the teenage diving sensation Tom Daley, is getting increasingly more attention since bursting onto the international stage at the Beijing Olympics as a 14 year old. Now as a national favorite to win gold at the London Games in a few months time, the team around Daley is trying to narrow the focus and avoid undue attention. Daley is currently in Beijing competing in the FINA World Series.
Daley won silver in the 10 meter platform event at last weekend's World Series in Dubai. Though still 30 points behind Chinese Champion Qiu Bo, Daley proved he is getting back to form. But he's leaving others to do the talking.
According to British team officials, the 17-year-old is limiting his time with the media until the Olympics. Daley became a household name in the UK back in 2008 when he was youngest member of the British Olympic team in Beijing. Expectations for a London gold medal soared when Daley became 10-metre platform world champion in 2009, but he had failed to win any major events since. Diving pundits suggested Daley's celebrity status and media activities may have been getting in the way of his Olympic ambitions.
