The Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei from China knocked out Canadian Michelle Li 21-18, 21-17 to reach the women's singles semifinals at the World Badminton Championships on Friday.
Ranked number four in the world, Chen took only 46 minutes to seal the win. Coming up next for Chen in the semifinals will be Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei.
"I have collected some useful experience from the past days, and I will try my best in the next match," said Chen.
China's ace women's doubles pair Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan also finished a quick match in 45 minutes, beating Thailand's pair Jongkolphan Kititharkul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-16, 21-7 for the semifinals.
In the men's singles, China's Zhao Junpeng clawed back to defeat India's H.S. Prannoy 19-21, 21-6, 21-18 to make the last four. Danish player Viktor Axelsen beat Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 21-10, 21-10 to also cruise to the semifinals.
"The key to victory is my confidence. I'm happy with my progress," said Zhao.
Elsewhere, China's mixed doubles pairs Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong and Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping both advanced to the semifinals.
