Chinese paddlers booked the two final spots of mixed doubles on Friday to secure the title in the table tennis tournament at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Top seeded mixed pair Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha knocked down Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin from South Korea 4-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8) in the semifinals, while Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Yidi booked the other final spot by beating another South Korean pair Jang Woojin and Jeon Jihee 4-1 (11-9, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7).
In the men's singles round of 16, Chinese paddlers Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin, the top two seeds at the event, smashed their opponents 3-0 respectively to enter the quarterfinals, and Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Iranian "Backhand Man" Noshad Alamiyan Darounkolaei 4-2 (11-9, 12-10, 11-8, 5-11, 10-12, 12-10).
In the women's singles round of 16, Pyon Songgyong from DPR Korea defeated sixth seed Miu Hirano of Japan 4-2 (11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 4-11, 11-5, 11-8), and she will meet world No.1 Sun Yingsha in quarterfinals.
South Korean pair An Jaehyun and Park Ganghyeon, seeded third in the event, were defeated by Japan's Taisei Matsushita and Mizuki Oikawa 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-8) in the men's doubles round of 16.
In the women's doubles round of 16, Japanese pair Miwa Harimoto and Miyuu Kihara sailed past Akula Sreeja and Chitale Diya Parag from India 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-8), and they will face Chinese pair Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu who smashed Lee Hoching and Li Chingwan from Hong Kong, China 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-3).
