Tunisian tennis player Ons Jabeur has announced plans to donate part of her WTA Finals prize money to help the Palestinian people.
"I am very happy with the win, but I haven't been happy lately," the world No. 7 said following her victory over Marketa Vondrousova in the season-ending tournament in Cancun, Mexico, expressing her distress over the current Israel-Gaza conflict.
"It's very tough seeing children, babies dying every day. It's heartbreaking," Jabeur said while fighting back tears.
"So I've decided to donate part of my prize money to help the Palestinians. I cannot be happy with just this win, with what is happening," she said.
The death toll among Palestinians in Gaza has now exceeded 9,000 since the beginning of the current Israel-Hamas conflict, the Gaza-based Health Ministry said on Thursday.
