The Shanghai Sharks grabbed an 88-80 win to end the Beijing Ducks' winning streak, while the Nanjing Monkey Kings beat the Sichuan Blue Whales 109-106 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Sunday.
Liu Zheng scored the first points of the game for Shanghai, leading to a 10-0 run. Beijing soon struck back with Zhu Yanxi's three-pointer. Shanghai took a 5-0 run at the end of the quarter and closed the first half with a 41-34 lead.
With tight zone defense, Shanghai stopped Beijing from any point runs in the fourth quarter. Beijing kept chasing in the last five minutes, but Noah Vonleh's layup prevented Beijing from taking over the game.
Shanghai showcased their balanced offense with four players reaching double figures. Noah Vonleh had a game-high 21 points, while Yan Pengfei added 13 points.
Elsewhere, the Sichuan Blue Whales established a 29-21 lead in the first quarter. The Nanjing Monkey Kings caught up in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Antonio Blakeney's free-throw gave his team a 107-103 lead with 12.0 seconds remaining, putting the game beyond Sichuan's reach, rendering Robert Golden's game-high 42 points in vain.
Also on Sunday, the Guangdong Southern Tigers beat the Qingdao Eagles 111-109, and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers overpowered the Ningbo Rockets 118-113 after overtime.
