The Shandong Heroes routed the Fujian Sturgeons 130-117, while the Guangdong Southern Tigers edged the Beijing Ducks 114-110 to stay unbeaten in the 2023-24 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league regular season on Saturday.
Shandong tore apart the defense of Fujian by pouring three-pointers as soon as the game began, and widened the gap to a jaw-dropping 38 points at the end of halftime. The Sturgeons failed to recover from the great loss, leaving the see-sawing game to a sweeping victory for Shandong.
Troy Gillenwater pocketed 41 points for Shandong, with Marcus Foster adding another 20 points. On the Fujian side, Eugene German topped the scoring with 34 points, followed by Thon Maker's 29 points.
Another fixture on Saturday witnessed fierce competition between the Beijing Ducks and the Guangdong Southern Tigers. Beijing started strong with a 5-point lead in the first quarter, while Guangdong's Ren Junfei and Tremont Waters tied the score at 52-52 in the second quarter. The two teams then exchanged scores and intensive offensives till the very last minute of the match, with Tremont Waters scoring the last shot and securing Guangdong's prevail.
Also on Saturday, the Shenzhen Aviators smashed the Qingdao Eagles 104-84, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls knocked down the Jiangsu Dragons 108-88, and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers cruised past the Shanxi Loongs 111-86.
