Fang Shuo scored his season-high 28 points to help Beijing edge Guangzhou 95-91 in the 2023-24 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league regular season on Tuesday, ending a three-game losing streak.
Fang also dished out five assists while Cui Yongxi had 23 points for Guangzhou.
"We played with resilience. We have faced many difficulties recently, so today we fought as one," Fang said.
Beijing led 11 points into the last quarter, only to see Guangzhou cut the deficit to only three points with two minutes to go.
Fang dropped a crucial three-pointer to gift Beijing a 90-84 lead and the home team held their nerves to bag a precious victory.
Just before the game, Beijing appointed Giulio Griccioli as the head coach to replace Ernest Raden who had resigned from the position.
"Thanks for the club to give me such an opportunity, and I also want to give my thanks to the players, we encountered many difficulties, but everyone kept fighting and helping each other," Griccioli said.
Elsewhere, with six players scoring double-digit, Guangdong eased past Nanjing 127-92.
