Troy Gillenwater pocketed 37 points and nine rebounds, helping the Shandong Heroes edge the Ningbo Rockets 109-103, while Wang Zhelin's last-second three-pointer sealed a 112-111 victory for the Shanghai Sharks over the Shenzhen Aviators in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) League on Tuesday.
Turning a recent bad run of form, Gillenwater of Shandong saw an outburst in the game versus Ningbo. He dominated the paint and scored 18 points in the first quarter. Together with Tao Hanlin, who added 16 points and nine rebounds in the whole game, Shandong showed the obvious advantage from inside.
Ningbo's Luo Kaiwen hit nine three-pointers out of 13 attempts for 28 points, helping his team catch up with Shandong until the last moment.
"I am not quite satisfied with the performance of our players, we need to learn from Ningbo, they were more active on the offensive side with clear minds and determination," Shandong's head coach Ding Wei said after the game.
During the last minutes, neither team was able to widen the gap. Bai Haotian of Shenzhen missed two free throws, giving Shanghai a slim chance which Wang made it with his winning shot from beyond the arc.
Wang led Shanghai with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Eric Bledsoe added 20 points and seven assists.
