The French Orient Express Yacht was the first of the six hopefuls to be eliminated after the last day of racing in the second round-robin series in the Americas Cup in Barcelona on Monday.
The French needed to win after Sunday's racing was postponed by poor weather in Barcelona to have any chance of making the semifinals, but they were well-beaten by the INEOS-Britannia boat of Britain and are eliminated after finishing last in the six-yacht group with just one win from the two round robin series.
The day's second race saw the Italian Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli disqualified after sailing beyond the course boundaries in preparation for facing the Alinghi Red Bull Racing yacht from Switzerland.
The Swiss are now assured a place in the semifinals, but the disqualification means that Luna Rossa missed the chance to top the group and they were forced into a sail-off against the British to see who would be able to choose their semifinal rivals.
In that race INEOS-Britannia was able to take the best position for the wind and extend their advantage to a winning margin of 42 seconds.
Monday's other race had no bearing on the qualification with Team Emirates-New Zealand beating NYC America Magic. The American yacht was already assured a semifinal sport, while New Zealand will meet the eventual winner of the players in October, to decide the overall winner in the final series.
