Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen of China claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nadia Podoroska from Argentina to cruise into the women's singles last 16 of the China Open here on Monday.
After taking some time to find rhythm on her serve, the fifth seed Zheng broke Podoroska first to take a 3-1 lead and secured a 6-3 win. Podoroska fought back in the second set and once led 2-1, while Zheng overturned the tide fast to clinch the victory.
"It is a little cold today, and I started a bit slow. I really appreciate the cheers from the crowd. I will continue to enjoy my China tour," Zheng, 21, said after the game.
In the round of 16, Zheng will confront the 23-year-old Amanda Anisimova of the United States.
