The Portland Timbers defender broke the deadlock in the 88th minute when he latched onto Piero Quispe's cross with a bullet header that ricocheted into the far corner off goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
The result at Estadio Nacional in Lima marked the Blanquirroja's first victory from nine games this qualifying campaign.
Jorge Fossati's men are ninth in the 10-team standings with six points, 10 points behind third-placed Uruguay.
Peru will conclude the doubleheader of South American group qualifiers with a clash against Brazil in Brasilia on Tuesday. Uruguay will host Ecuador in Montevideo on the same day.
