A stunning solo goal from Enner Valencia fired 10-man Ecuador to a 1-0 away win over Colombia in their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Valencia took possession near the halfway line after an errant Richard Rios backpass before dribbling past three defenders and firing a low shot into the far corner.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men just after the half hour when Piero Hincapie was deemed to have denied Jhon Cordoba a clear scoring opportunity with a foul on the edge of the penalty area.
Colombia controlled 67% of possession and had 25 attempts on goal but failed to find a way past Ecuador goalkeeper Hernan Galindez.
The result marked Colombia's first home defeat since January 2022 when the Cafeteros suffered a 1-0 loss to Peru. It was also the first time in this qualifying campaign that Nestor Lorenzo's men have lost two consecutive matches.
Ecuador and Colombia now both have 19 points from 12 games in the South American qualifying group.
