An early goal from Milton Gimenez gave Boca Juniors a 1-0 home win over Union Santa Fe in Argentina's Primera Division on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old striker headed home in the fourth minute after Exequiel Zeballos' piercing run and cross from the left flank.
The host defended resolutely thereafter to secure its ninth win of the campaign.
Fernando Gago's men are now eighth in the 28-team standings with 34 points from 23 outings, two points behind Union.
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Wednesday, leader Velez Sarsfield was held to a goalless home draw by Lanus, Estudiantes drew 1-1 at home to Rosario Central, and Central Cordoba won 3-2 at Newell's Old Boys.
