Shanghai Port defender Li Ang issued a written apology to his teammates after he was sent off in their 3-1 win over Ulsan HD FC in a AFC Champions League Elite game on Tuesday.
Li was shown a red card by the referee after his foul thwarted a dangerous attempt on the goal by the Ulsan side in the 30th minute of the game.
"First of all, I want to say sorry to everyone. I lost concentration then and made a mistake which brought extra trouble to you," Li wrote on his social media account.
"I also want to thank you for managing to prevail in the face of numerical inferiority. Thanks to the timely adjustment made by the coaching staff and your fighting spirit, we pulled off the away win," he added.
Prior to Li's sent-off, the Shanghai side was already 2-0 up thanks to a brace from Matias Vargas.
In the 73rd minute, the host pulled one back. Ten minutes later, Vargas completed his hat-trick, snuffing out the South Korean side's hopes of a comeback.
