Chinese divers Wang Han and Shi Tingmao managed a 1-2 finish in the women's one-meter springboard preliminary competition at the 14th FINA World Championships on Sunday.
Wang, 20, the bronze medallist in the event at the 2009 Rome worlds, collected 306.60 points from five solid dives, however a minor mistake in her second, while her teammate Shi Tingmao, 19, placed second at 294.65. Australian diver Sharleen Stratton finished third at 282.45.
Wang complained about the weather after the preliminary.
"Today is so hot," she said. "The wind was so strong that I was influenced in my second dive. This time my opponents are not that strong, so I hope I can grab the chance. I will try to stay calm in the final and to avoid mistakes."
It is the first worlds for teenager Shi, however she seemed quite calm. "I did a good job overall, just made some minor mistakes," she said. "I think I should focus more on details and feel more confident. I will try my best in the final."
Stratton was satisfied with her performance.
"I am happy about my performance," she said. "But I need to be more confident in the final. I feel a little better from yesterday. I need to relax, and take a day off tommorrow. But I am happy about my current standing."
Talking about the hot weather, she said she prefers outdoor game. "It is not very hot for me. I did not feel any influence from the wind," she said.
The final will be held on Tuesday.
