As many as 178 volunteers from Hong Kong took oath to serve for the Shenzhen Universiade after they arrived in the host city on Tuesday.
The 178 Hong Kong volunteers will serve as guides for the spectators at three Universiade venues in Shenzhen from Aug. 12-23 after completing a 3-day training, according to Zhang Zhihua, the executive deputy director of Volunteers Headquarters for the Shenzhen Universiade.
Hong Kong has selected over 800 volunteers from more than 2000 applicants for the Shenzhen Universiade, with 178 of them working in Shenzhen and the rest in Hong Kong, said Adrian Yip Chun-to, Chairman of the Hong Kong Volunteers Association.
Adrian Yip Chun-to added that Hong Kong people's enthusiasm for the Universiade voluntary service showed their profound patriotism, and the volunteer exchanges will boost mutual understanding between the young people in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, thus deepening the economic and cultural ties between the two cities.
