Heading China Unicom and then China Mobile, Wang Jianzhou is one of the most powerful figures of Chinese communication industry during the past 15 years. Graduated in 1985 from the Department of Management Engineering of Zhejiang University, Wang formerly served as the director general of the Department of Planning and Construction of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the director general of the Department of General Planning of the Ministry of Information Industry. He joined China Mobile in November 2004. Wang's aim is to build a profitable as well as advanced Chinese telecom carrier.
In February 2011, he was awarded the GSMA Chairman's Award that was established in 1995 to recognize the outstanding personal contribution to the growth and development of mobile communications around the world.
