Growing out of the faculty of education at Imperial University of Peking founded in 1902, Beijing Normal University is one of the oldest universities in China. It's a national key university under the Ministry of Education. The university is a renowned institution of higher learning, which focuses on teacher training, education science, and basic learning in arts and sciences. Currently, the university offers 57 undergraduate programs, 166 master's programs and 111 doctoral programs in its 22 academic schools. It also has 18 post-doctoral mobile stations and 74 research laboratories and institutions at various levels. The university ranked 64th in Asia and 8th on the Chinese mainland among the QS World's University Rankings in 2011.
