Located in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southwestern Gansu Province, the Gannan Grasslands cover an area of 37.58 million mu (2.51 million hectares) and primarily stretch out through Gansu's Maqu, Xiehe and Luqu counties. It is known to be one of China's six most beautiful grasslands, featuring crystal lakes, vast grassland and various kinds of rare animals. It contains a large number of famous scenic spots, including Gahai Lake, the largest fresh-water lake located in the grasslands, and Labrang Monastery, an important cultural relic under state protection.
