Forbes has released its latest ranking of the richest Americans, the 32nd edition of the list in its history. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates ranks first for the 20th year in a row, with a net worth of US$72 billion.
Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, once again came in No.2 this year. He added US$12.5 billion to his personal fortune, raising his total wealth to US$58.5 billion.
Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison held on to his No. 3 position, with a personal net worth of US$41 billion.
Comparing with the ranking of last year, the personal wealth of most American riches have grown significantly, mainly due to the recovery of the country’s stock markets and real estate industry.
The total personal net wealth of all 400 Americans featured on the list comes to US$2 trillion this year, higher than the US$1.7 trillion in 2012. Only 30 people from last year’s list saw their fortunes decline over the past year.
The Forbes 400 list is based on the information and data from on-the-spot investigation, interviews, and related documents. All assets, such as takes in public and private companies, real estate, art, yachts, planes, ranches, vineyards, jewelry and car collections, are included. Debts are also taken into account.
