Leica APO-TELYT-R 1:5.6 1600mm US$2,064,489
For average users, spending one thousand dollars or so on a lens would mean a long-term, and satisfactory, purchase. But a Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani took it one step further. He spent US$2.06 million to have Leica custom-make this lens for him.
Despite not being the world's longest lens, the Leica label successfully made it the world's most expensive one. It measures 1.2 meters with a diameter of 42 cm. Al-Thani has a car specifically to move this lens around.
No one knows what the lens can do exactly as since it was delivered to him in 2006, no one has seen any of the images he's taken with it.
