The Moscow State Academic Art Institute, also known as the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow, is a world-famous higher-learning art school. Its history can be traced back to the mid-19th century, when an art class was established here. On the basis of this class, Igor Grabar, an artist and theorist of art, established the Moscow Art School in 1939. It was afterwards renamed after great Russian painter V.I. Surikov in 1948. Nowadays, the academy is composed of four faculties: Painting, Graphic Arts, Sculpture and Theory and History of Arts.
