Suning Appliances topped the list of the top 500 Chinese private enterprises of 2014 with 279.8 billion yuan (US$45.74 billion) in operating revenues, according to rankings published by the China Non-Governmental Enterprise Directors Association, the National Statistical Society of China and the Research Center for Enterprises at the China Academy of Management Science on Oct. 26.
The total operating revenues of the top 500 companies exceeded 13 trillion yuan (US$2.1 trillion), up 18.98 percent over last year. Among these companies, 16 had operating revenues that exceeded 100 billion yuan (US$16.35 billion).
The sector division showed that these companies still focus on manufacturing, including wholesale, electronics, construction and non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling. There were also 307 companies based in East China on the list, accounting for 61.4 percent of total, reflecting the Eastern region's leadership in economic development.
In addition, the fast development of new materials has brought huge changes to many companies. 398 companies, 79.6 percent of all companies on the top 500 list, have entered into the energy conservation and environmental protection industries, including new materials and new energy.
