Times Higher Education, an influential UK publication, recently released its World University Rankings 2015, the result of the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey.
According to the 2015 list, Harvard University ranked first again. Universities from the United States and United Kingdom took the top 10 positions.
The University of Tokyo in Japan ranked twelfth, the best among all the Asian universities.
China’s Tsinghua University and Peking University ranked 26th and 32nd respectively.
Forty-three of the top 100 institutions are in the United States, twelve in the UK and six in Germany.
The survey, carried out between November 2014 and January 2015, received a total of 10,507 responses from 142 countries. The questionnaire targets only experienced scholars who have spent 15.3 years in higher education and research on average.
The list ranks institutions by comprehensively measuring their reputation for research and teaching and the scores are combined with a ratio of 2: 1.
